Blog Number Four: Racial Stereotyping

It is never right to racially stereotype for advertising purposes. Media has gone so far to push diversity, but advertisers still use it to reach to a certain crowd. Racial stereotyping will always be a problem because it goes hand in hand with advertising. There will always be a group of people that fit the range of people that the advertisers need. They will make funny commercials that make fun of the race, because it becomes relatable to the desired audience. The commercial posted below is an example.

Racism in advertising should be a thing of the past, but it is still commonly used today. In the link below, you can see that many companies and agencies still use racial stereotyping in advertising still. Some advertisers realize that an ad is racist too late, and has no control over the media taking over a commercial or print ad and will loose consumers from it.

Advertisers hold ethical responsibilities, and they should take the responsibilities in advertising seriously. This is a big problem. More companies need to hire intercultural educated people to ensure that advertisements as such don’t come out, because it hurts their customer base. All it takes is one screen shot before an ad goes viral and criticized, and a companies name is ruined.
